Fort Mac can't fight off Dawgs

by Giants Insider

The Giants returned home, fresh off their longest road trip of the 2024 Season to begin their longest home stand of the season against the reigning WCBL Champion, Okotoks Dawgs.

After getting up on the Dawgs on the road, Okotoks came to Fort McMurray ready for some vengeance taking all four games against the Giants. The Dawgs took the first three games of the series in convincing fashion on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night fall by scores of 10-2, 9-0 and 9-1.

On Sunday, the Giants fought back jumping out to an early 2-0 lead courtesy of a Cruz Oxford two RBI single which seemed to jump start the offense in this one. The Giants would give the lead back in the fifth before going punch for punch with the Dawgs in the middle part of the game. In the bottom of the fifth, the Giants retook the lead 5-4 behind a Jaden Wiley RBI triple, followed by a Cruz Oxford RBI double and finished off with a Manny Alberto RBI single.

The Dawgs would score twice in the sixth to retake the lead before the Giants struck back for two of their own after a Michael Buckley lead off single and a Darcy Barry walk, Jaden Wiley did the damage with a two RBI single to center field to push the Giants ahead once again, this time 7-6 heading to the seventh.

However, the Dawgs would prosper in this one tying the game in the seventh, before scoring on a sacrifice fly ball in the top of the ninth to plate the eventual winner in this one.

The Giants remain at home for the entirety of next week as they take on the Weyburn Beavers on Wednesday night in the first game of their two game series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm!
