Fort Mac offense rolls against Medicine Hat
The Fort McMurray Giants were not messing around on Sunday afternoon. After a tough extra innings loss against Moose Jaw the Giants were out for revenge on Sunday defeating Medicine Hat, 16-5.
The Fort Mac offense struck immediately in this one. Michael Buckley singled on the second pitch of the game before a Joe Finder double put the Giants in immediate scoring position. A balk and RBI single from Jaden Wiley would cash the two returnees who set the tone for the Giants in this one. Later in the first inning, Junho Son and Darcy Barry doubled in back-to-back at bats to give the Giants an early 3-0 lead before even touching the field defensively.
After adding a single run in the second inning, the Giants offense cooled until the seventh inning. In the seventh the Giants exploded for twelve runs sparked by a lead off home run from Atlas Workwear Player of the Game, Joe Finder who later singled in the same inning to cash two more Giants. Manny Alberto put the icing on the metaphorical cake hitting a two run home run to cap the massive inning. The Giants would send seventeen batters to the plate and collect seven hits in the inning.
Giants Starting Pitcher, Chan Yoon was strong over his three innings of work, allowing just two hits while striking out two Mavericks. Picking up the win on the mound was returnee, John Shields who tossed three and two thirds innings, allowing only two hits while striking out four batters. Shields stopped the Mavericks comeback attempt before the big seventh inning for the Giants.
Fort McMurray returns to Athletic Park on Monday to conclude their series and road trip against the Mavericks before returning home on Tuesday morning. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm!
