Fort Mac sweeps Swift Current

by Giants Insider

Make it two in a row for the Fort McMurray Giants as they sweep the Swift Current 57's in a rain shortened affair on Thursday night.

The cool weather and rain couldn't slow the Giants as they picked up where they left off in their previous game against the 57's. In the third inning, Shortstop Darcy Barry jump starts the offense again, this time with a triple off the centerfield fence before scoring on a wild pitch. Oklahoma Baptist teammates, Jayden Shafer and Jaden Wiley draw a walk each to restart the rally, Shafer scoring on a RBI single from Catcher Benicio Diaz to make it 2-0 Giants.

The fourth started with a loud out as Manny Alberto lined out to the warning track through the rain. Junho Son and Darcy Barry reached base via a walk and hit-by-pitch before the Giants struck with two, two out clutch RBI singles from Michael Buckley and Jaden Wiley to extend the lead to 5-0.

Giants Starting Pitcher Bryn Biemiller battled the elements all night and found a way to overcome a lengthy rain delay to seal the deal for the Giants. Biemiller, a super-Senior from Lourdes University tossed a (rain shortened) complete game scattering two hits, while striking out five Swift Current batters to move to 2-0 on the year.

The Giants continue their road swing in Moose Jaw on Friday night as they take on the Miller Express at Ross Wells Stadium beginning at 7:05pm.
