Giants lead in Okotoks in Suspended Game, 6-4

by Giants Insider

It was a wet weekend in Okotoks as the Giants attempted to play games five and six of their eight game road trip. Saturday's game scheduled for 7:05pm was eventually cancelled due to heavy rains and poor field conditions at Seaman Stadium. Sunday the weather held long enough to take a lead late but not complete the game.

The Giants got off to a hot start against the Dawgs, scoring three times in the first inning. Returnee Jayden Shafer hit a two out, RBI single to add the third run of the first and cap a strong start. The Dawgs would answer in their half of the first cashing two runs before newcomer Jakob Brandenberger shut the door.

In the third, newcomer Peyton McDowall smashed his third home run in four games over the left field fence to get the Giants a two run lead. The USAO Drover has been scoring hot since arriving to the Giants lineup. The Dawgs respond three innings later, with a home run of their own, a two-run shot from Connor Crowson ties the game at 4-4.

In the eight, the Giants lead by a lead off single from McDowall score twice on back-to-back RBI doubles from Joe Finder and Manny Alberto to push ahead, 6-4. In the bottom half of the eight the skies open and the game had to be halted due to poor field conditions. The game will be resumes at a date to be announced in Okotoks at Seaman Stadium.

The Giants host the Dawgs this week in a four game series at Legacy Dodge Field at Shell Place.
