The Fort McMurray Giants open their 2024 WCBL Season in the win column after a strong performance on Opening Night in front of a packed house at Legacy Dodge Field at Shell Place.

The Giants offense took centerstage on Opening Day, wasting no time getting on the board scoring four runs in the first inning. The quick start was lead by newcomer, Benny Diaz's two strike, two RBI Triple that scored CJ Morro and Junho Son.

Newcomer, Jaden Wiley landed the next big blow in the sixth inning driving a ball into the left centerfield gap which scored (two-time) teammate Jayden Shafer and Manny Alberto.

The seventh sealed the deal for the Giants, as they added another four runs as they hit around in the batting order for the second time in the game. After Junho Son and Joe Finder walked, returner Jayden Shafer stepped to the plate ripping a two RBI Double to extend the Giants lead. The Giants would tack on two more runs in the inning as well as a single run in the eight.

On the mound, the Giants got a strong start from returnee, Bryn Biemiller who picked up the win, scattering two hits while striking out three Prospects along the way. Fellow returnee, John Shields followed Biemiller's lead, allowing only a single hit, while striking out four over his three innings. McPherson College's Broc Selstrom, to the tune of Wild Thing took the mound to seal the game in the ninth inning.

The Giants return to Legacy Dodge Field at Shell Place on Saturday for game two of the three game set to open the 2024 WCBL schedule. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm!
